Restoration of the Bishop’s Seminary Gate

The project

The piers frame a historic entrance on Via della Repubblica in Nola. Time and weather had taken their toll: large areas of render had detached, exposing the masonry core, and the crowning cornices had lost much of their profile.

Works were carried out from full scaffolding, starting with a close survey of the surviving fabric. The approach consolidates the masonry, repairs the render where it has failed and recovers the profile of the mouldings — keeping as much original material as possible.
